International Youth Day (IYD) August 12

This year International Youth Day themed: 'Be Seen, Be Heard: Youth Participation for Development promises to be an opportunity to make our voices heard in our different communities + localities.

My humble self will be well represented(as a Global Xchange Returned Volunteer) for the International Youth day in Abuja being organised by the Global Xchange Returned Volunteers in support/partnership with the Voluntary Service Overseas(VSO) and the British Council here in Nigeria.
It is a 3-day planned event to mark this year IYD.
Day 1 (10th Aug)- This is a summit for Global Xchange Volunteers, Nigeria with the Key Stakeholders.
Day 2 (11 Aug)- Community Action Day- We are using this activity day to reach out to young people who for health, economic or other reasons cannot be accessed in order to actively participate in the activities of the in international youth day. To this end, volunteers intend to visit the orphanage, prison and Motor Park . We will use this opportunity to promote the concept of volunteering by handing out bills, posters, armbands with a slogan like “volunteering no be jaki work” to young people as we go about the CAD.

Day 3-(12th Aug)Yeah! the IYD proper. This is the grand finale; volunteers are inviting individuals, stakeholders and groups who are clearly reputable and pro-youth to fundraise towards the creation of a Global Education Fund where returned volunteers can get funds from when embarking on projects using their initiatives as well as experiences gained on the programme. A guest artiste will be invited to perform as well as a comedian and the music group of the Theater department, University of Abuja .

I will keep you posted and give update/ report on this event.
