The World Youth Alliance held her 2nd International Conference at the BK International House, Calabar, Nigeria on November 30 and December 1, 2007 with the theme: “ Good Governance for Free and Just societies”.The conference had in attendance, about 50 youth from different regions to share ideas on good governance and how these ideas would be used to bring about good governance in our societies.
The day one of the conference had paper presentations from Winnie Beauttah, the Africa Regional director of WYA on ‘The Human Person – The Responsible Steward’. She said knowing our role is pertinent and exercising it in our communities would bring about productivity. She said when we know these roles, that is when we able to implement and actively participate. There were also other presentations by the delegates on good governance.
The day two of the conference had a round table discussion amongst participants on the principles of good governance, a draft resolution on good governance for common good and the way forward.
The conference participants had a candle light procession and observed a minute silent on this day in commemoration of the World AIDS Day as well as those who have lost their lives to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
This conference was an interesting, thought provoking and challenging. I was privileged to be at this event which brought about new learnings.
Let us all be ambassadors of change!! It begins with ME, it begins with YOU.
