The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme: The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarships schemes for international study in the world. Since it was established in 1959, almost 30,000 individuals
have benefited – nearly 24,000 of them have held awards funded by the United Kingdom, managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC), with 3,700 of them being Shared Scholars. Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, offered in partnership with UK universities, are for developing country students who would not otherwise be able to undertake Master’s level study in the UK. In 2014-2015, 69 UK universities are participating in the scheme by jointly funding the scholarships.

General Commonwealth Scholarship Eligibility Requirements for Students
  • Be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a Commonwealth developing country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country.
  • Hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level.
  • Be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course;
  • Have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country;
  • Not be employed by a government department (at national level) or a parastatal organisation (employees of universities are normally acceptable);
  • Be themselves, or through families, unable to pay for the proposed course of study in the UK;
  • Be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete.
