The Global Citizen Initiative defines a global citizen as 'someone who identifies with being part of an emerging world community and whose actions contribute to building this community's values and practices'. A global citizen is interested in global issues and seeks to intervene by finding solutions to some these issues through local actions. A global citizen 'thinks globally and acts locally'.
For example, poverty is one of the global issues facing the world today. More than 3 billion people, who make up almost half the world's population live on less than $2.50 a day. Poverty
is an issue of concern around the world. A global citizen is not only worrried about the level of poverty in the world but seeks to find means through involvement in interventions that will contribute to reducing poverty amongst the vilnerable in their communities. A global citizen will always first start being involved and engaged locally to support communities.
A global citizen does not sit to wait for the government to act but seeks for ways to complement the efforts of the government in solving community problems. A global citizen is aware that the capacity of the government is limited hence, the need to work as a team within communities to sloving community problems.
